Biography
Scholar and Compiler of Hadith. Sunan Abu Dawud is one of six important and authentic collections\r\n(Sihah Sittah) of the Prophetic Traditions, Abu Dawud, following the\r\npractice of his time, travelled far and wide to collect Hadith. He\r\nvisited Hijaz, Iraq, Khurasahn, Egypt, Syria, Nishapur, Marv and\r\nIsfahan for the purpose.His proficience in Hadith is accepted. he\r\nalso had keen insight in law (fiqh). His Sunan, naturally, is replete\r\nwith legal traditions; it also indicates his point of view on various\r\nquestions and his acuman in ijtihad. The Sunan is Abu Dawud's most\r\nimportant work. It has 4800 traditions selected from a mass of\r\n50,000. It can be called one of the fundamental works on Hadith. Sunan Abu Dawood has been translated to English.
