Biography
old Name: Barah
\r\nBoth her father and her first husband were enemies of Islam. In the battle of Marisie (6 AH) she was captured and taken by Thabit Bin Qais who agreed to let her go for 9 Auqia. Lacking money, she went to the Holy Prophet for help who not only agreed to help her but to marry her. In another narration, her father paid for her release but she chose to marry the Holy Prophet. It is said her original name was Barrah but the Holy Prophet changed it to Juwayriyah.
\r\nShe was brought as a prisoner from the battle of Banu Al-Mustaliq in Sha'ban, in the year 5 or 6 A.H. and was given to Thabit bin Qays. He decided to set her free in return for a certain amount. The Prophet (saw) paid Thabit the amount he requested, freed her and married her. Having seen this, the Muslims set free one hundred families of the Banu Al-Mustaliq saying that they were in-laws of the Prophet (saw). Thus she proved herself a blessing for her people. She died in Rabi' Al-Awwal, 56 A.H., at the age of 65. \r\n\r\n
